World Starving for Quality Television en Español

Filed under: El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 10:13 pm

Wow!

StatCounter says Ed has had 12,909 hits so far to his show… And he has not even taped A SINGLE EPISODE yet ! ! ! :)

Can you believe THAT!?

I can.

Here’s why:

Before we decided to launch his own Spanish language show, I did a bit of research. I used Google Trends — which is a tool you can use which tells you loads of information about internet searches done worldwide.

And these results are PHENOMINAL…

But don’t believe me…

You won’t believe your eyes!

Go to Google Trends and enter this search term: internet television

Click on Cities. Notice that…

(1) All ten of the top 10 CITIES in the entire world searching for “internet television” are Spanish-speaking cities.

Now click on Regions

(2) All ten of the top 10 REGIONS in the entire world searching for “internet television” are Spanish-speaking regions.

Now click on Languages

(3) Of course, all ten of the top 10 LANGUAGES cannot all be Spanish… But the top THREE languages are ALL forms of Spanish!

This is absolutely astonishing!

Now, to get an idea of how astounding this is… Enter an entirely different search phrase, like: bicycle helmets

And click on Cities, then click Regions, then click Languages.

Notice anything? Yes, every country, on every continent, is represented….

But not for “internet television”… The Spanish-speaking world is DYING for some quality internet television!

Just to prove it’s not a fluke… Try a similar term, like: online television

….and notice the results.

PRETTY AMAZING, EH!?

But that’s not all…

Now try the phrase: gay television

Note that, for the term “gay television”:

(1) FOUR of the top 10 CITIES in the entire world searching for “gay television” are Spanish-speaking cities — including 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th positions.

(2) THE TOP SEVEN of the top 10 REGIONS in the entire world searching for “gay television” are Spanish-speaking regions — followed by 8th place=USA, 9th place=Australia, and 10th place=UK.

(3) THE NUMBER ONE LANGUAGE searching for “gay television” is Spanish. Almost 3 times as many searches as 2nd place, which is Engligh.

Just wait till Ed interviews all the teachers from The Secret: Law of Attraction…  It’s going to be a smash hit!

Updates on the Web Sites and Shows

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 1:43 am

Hey everybody, We’ve been hard at work on all three show websites, and both blog websites, and both forum/message board web sites…

Ya, know… When we first sat down — way back when — and talked about it… We agreed that we were gonna keep the site super-simple and clean… Nothing more than a video player, and a couple of important menu links… much in the style of rocketboom or the barry z show sites.

Now… about 4 weeks later… as I was backing it all up… I just happened to notice that:

brucewagner.com is now at 12.3 MB, in 351 files, in 65 folders.

edwardgel.com is now at 9.17 MB, in 276 files, in 54 folders.

bruceanded.com is now at 8.93 MB, in 269 files, in 53 folders.

TOTALLING… 30.4 MB, in 896 files, in 172 folders.

And, of course, those are only the three SHOW websites… That doesn’t include the blogs or the forums…

It’s amazing how a simple little project like this can explode into a WHOPPING 272 web pages…And, then you take a typical page, like this one: http://brucewagner.com/about.htm …and it contains 138 links.

WHAT!?!?

THAT’s 272 pages… times 138 links… =

37,536 links… to test… one by one…

Help!

(Don’t believe me? Go to seologs.com and enter this URL: “http://brucewagner.com/about.htm”. It will clearly highlight every link on the page for you…)

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill…

It’s a good thing we didn’t decide to make it a fancy sophisitcated site… like oprah.com:D

Ya know… you just want a web site that looks ok… One that looks professional enough… Yet, web site design it a thousand times more work than anyone thinks.

If you have a web designer who does great work for you, you’d better appreciate them! Because I’d be willing to bet that most people feel quite the opposite. They feel that their web designer can never seem to create a web site that matches the vision they hold in their head… and that it seems to take forever to get any major changes implemented.

Anyway, I think it’s about done… at least for now. There are only a couple little spots of text — like a nice bio of Ed, and one for myself too — but otherwise, it’s going to have to do, as it is, for now… Spending more than a month on it — taking breaks ONLY to briefly sleep and eat (quite literally)… is enough.

Now… FINALLY… It’s time to start focusing all of our attention on the CONTENT… on the show itself…

Whew! :)

One more note about the websites: We’ve updated some of the translations on the website. Also, we added Arabic as a new language – very cool! If you want to help out to translate the site to a language we still do not support, please just contact us, there is a Contact Us form on the About-page! We really really appreciate any translations! :-) Keep rocking!

Also, when I say we’ve “been working on the web sites”, I am also including in that… that we have been working on what I call, The Network — the distribution channels we will use to broadcast our shows. We will be using a Great Many different avenues… (basically ALL of the available avenues..) on the internet.

We will be distributing every new show via:

  • our own web sites
  • email subscribers
  • rss feed subscribers
  • itunes video and audio podcasts
  • youtube — plus our list of 31 other “online video” sites
  • myspace — plus our list of 18 other “social networking” sites
  • bittorent — all of the top 35 bittorent sites (see my list of favorite bittorrent sites )
  • and wherever else we can think of to get it out there…

Now, on with the show…

Time to focuss on producing excellent shows now…

:)

As a Viewer, Your Opinion Please?

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 8:39 pm

Someone recently asked,

What’s up with your homepage? All that loads is the banner and footer links?!?!

The main page SHOULD come up with a “LOADING” message in the center… while the video player loads… Then, the show is supposed to automatically start playing.

Does it now? (see brucewagner.com )

Three Questions for YOU…

(1) I am, now, trying to figure out the BEST way to tell the viewer….

“IF the video does not start playing, click Refresh!”

But that seems like an obnoxious thing to have to state at the top of the page…. No?

Any suggestions?

(2) Also, I think I need to add a “Subscribe via email” box to the main page… because that is so important to get a regualr following of viewers (once the show launches on a regular basis)… Do you agree?

(3) Do you think that the Blog Viewer window, at the bottom of the page, is too much…? Overkill….? Or ok?

Been Working 24 Hrs/Day for the past 3 Weeks!

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 7:20 am

I sure hope it’s worth it!

Sometimes an email to a friend just tells it like it is… and makes a good Dear Diary entry…

and a status update on my life…

Can you give me a call? Or give me the best time to talk w/ you? I’m launching a video web thing, just like you, and I want to hear how it works, how much it costs, and how it compares to others like www.helloworld.com

And, I’ve lost your numbers…

Hope to talk w/ you soon.

Love, K

P.S. I now have a webcam, do you??? I need help on this too.

Hey, Baby!

Well, it’s 7:28AM right now… and I’ve been up… basically 24 hours a day… for the past 3-1/2 weeks…. working on our web sites… I’ve been living on tons of coffee…. until 5pm…. and then tons of diet coke around the clock otherwise…. every day.

I am falling asleep on my keyboard right now, in fact… and I think it is quite too late (or early?) to call you now….

But feel free to call me on any normal day between 10am and 10pm…

(On Tuesday, January 16th…. let’s say anytime between 1pm and 10pm…)

Check out our websites and let me know what you think so far…

Especially each of these pages…

1. http://brucewagner.com and

2. http://edwardgel.com and

3. http://bruceanded.com and

4. http://brucewagner.com/podcast and

5. http://brucewagner.com/faq and

6. http://brucewagner.com/about

7. http://brucewagner.com/brownies

8. http://brucewagner.com/chat

9. http://brucewagner.com/download

10. http://brucewagner.com/skypecast

11. http://brucewagner.com/blog

12. http://brucewagner.com/forum

While you’re at it…. If you wanna be a doll and test out every link…. on every page… and make sure they all do what they’re supposed to do…

There should be well under… hmm…. how many links?

I just did a rough count…. and found 167 links on one page.

And there are 161 pictures, on 101 web pages… in 41 folders… That’s approximately, 167 times 101 = 16,867 links to test…

People don’t realize… It’s an ungodly amount of work to do a website all by yourself… especially if you’re not a web designer… and if you want more features than just a silly splash screen that acts as nothing more than an electronic business card…

As to your questions…

I have been maintaining a list of online video portals (here, http://del.icio.us/brucewagner/online_video )…. And I’ve been doing LOADS of research about them all… for the past year or more. I can sort of give you the low-down… in a nutshell. But best if we
talk on the phone… because there are so many options… it really does depend on exactly what you want to do… and what you expect/hope to get out of it.

Feel free to call me when you can…

As for the webcam… Webcam + Skype = fun fun fun for all…

I even wrote an article about it and posted it on the web… (here, http://brucewagner.com/gayskype )

Also, be sure to look at this page before downloading Skype: http://share.skype.com/in/102/286014

It’s SO good to hear from you!

I miss our wine and gay movie nights… ; )

Call us soon!

Love & Hugs,

Bruce

The Bruce Wagner Show – a Status Update

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 1:04 am

We’ve been working very hard this past three weeks — nearly around the clock — on the new website…

Although I’m not a professional web designer… We just wanted it to be simple and functional… Sort of like Google’s main search page… Simple.

But, of course, as we got into it… We kept thinking of more and more new features to add…

So now we have three web sites… one for each show…

We have a “chat live with Bruce” feature… so you can chat with me live, if I happen to be online…

And we have a “viewers map” so that viewers can pin themselves on a map to chart our audience geographically…

We have a facility for you to “syndicate” the show — and easily install a player on your own web site or MySpace page, etc…

We also created an easy feature for you to upload your own “viewer videos“… which we may use on the show…

Subscribe, Podcast, Skypecast, Download, Search, Archives, Suggest a Story, Feedback, Blog, About, Video Trouble, Learn English, Show Transcripts, and links for every major language…

Then we had to create all the same links in Spanish, for Ed’s show

Wow! :-O

It’s a LOT to put together…

At this point, I think it is about 90% functional… So, now, we’re at the point where we can shift our focus on creating the shows… the content…

We will likely still spend about an hour a day on completing and improving the web site… But, at this point, it is time to devote the vast majority of our attention on creating quality shows. As they say… Content is King.

We are also working on a way to automate the creation of the English language transcripts for The Bruce Wagner Show’s “learn english” program… The state of the art in voice recognition software is still far from perfect… But it will help a great deal in creating the first draft of our transcripts. Then, all we will have to do is go back a correct the few mistakes it made…

This evening we wrote the script for a standard “Welcome to the Show…” video introduction… Three of them, in fact… One for each of the three shows.

Then we had to translate one into Spanish… for Ed’s show… El Show de Edward Gel

So, the plan is… tomorrow morning we will try to tape all three intro videos…

Still not sure if we’re going to try to memorize the scripts… or use a teleprompter… Maybe a combination of both… so it sounds flawless… ;-)

The good news is: now we have three cameras in the studio, we have the 40 foot chroma-key screen installed, we have the new video editing workstation, and we have Avid Liquid — the software the pros use to do video editing of major motion pictures…

And, we’re all set to broadcast the daily chat show — Bruce and Ed Live from New York — as a skypcast… and even take calls from callers… all via the new version of Skype

You should be “seeing” a LOT more of us…. Soon….

Skype 3.0 for Windows is Official Release Today

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 2:04 am

We’ve been so impressed with the new features of Skype version 3, while it has been in beta…  such as…

  • the integration of, and debugging of, Skypecasting – the most amazing advancement since Skype itself!
  • the implementation of Skype Public Chats, which can be joined by anyone, without a host’s intervention…
  • the inclusion of the ability to call any telephone number from any website with one click…
  • and even birthday reminders for all of your contacts — without even needing to know when they are!

And now it is THE OFFICIAL RELEASE…

As of today, Skype 3.0 for Windows is the Official Release version…

DON’T DO ANYTHING ELSE… before you get this software!

If you want an example of how Skypecasting and Skype Public Chats can be used effectively…  on your own website…  Check out OUR OWN Skypecast Page…  on our site…  Go to brucewagner.com and click on the link called skypecast

PS:  I recommend that you UNinstall the version of Skype you have now, before installing the new version — even though the uninstal tells you that it’s not necessary.  (There were reports of problems due to installing a new version over an old one.  Even though I’m not sure if they are substantiated, “better safe than sorry”.)

What’s the Latest on the SHOWS!?

Filed under: Bruce & Ed Live from New York, El Show de Edward Gel — Bruce @ 4:28 am

Wow!

We’re getting ready to kick off a lot more shows….  real fast now…

The full “production shows”… about one per week…. with me, Bruce, as the host… are called The Bruce Wagner Show…  and will be at brucewagner.com

The daily “coffee chat” shows with Bruce & Ed — unscripted, unrehearsed, unedited, and raw — will be live-to-tape every day Monday throgh Friday — which will also be broadcast live via Skypecast…  are called Bruce & Ed Live from New York…..  and will be at bruceanded.com

And, finally, the full “production shows” in SPANISH language — with Ed as host….  about one per week….. called El Show de Edward Gel…  will be found at edwardgel.com

You’ll be able to watch any of these shows streaming online at each of their respective web sites….  and/or download them to watch them later…  and/or subscribe to them via iTunes, podcast, RSS, or even regular old-fashioned email…

I’ve been working hard this week just trying to get the new web sites up and functioning…  Looking good….  And making all the links work…

They’re not 100% complete, but we can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel….   The websites are maybe 90% complete…

First thing tomorrow morning, we’ll record some “Welcome/Introduction” videos…   to put up there….   on each of the sites….

THEN, we’re gonna hit the ground running with new SHOWS….

CONTENT….   (finally!)     go figure…
