Fake Email from Skype is an Identity Theft Fraud

Filed under: Uncategorized — Bruce @ 8:09 pm

URGENT: DO NOT FALL FOR THE FAKE SKYPE EMAIL !

There is a fake email going around which LOOKS like it came from Skype.

It tells you that “Your Skype account needs to be updated”…

IT IS NOT FROM SKYPE… !

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN IT.

DO NOT ENTER ANY INFO into the resulting site.

This type of counterfeit email designed to trick you into entering personal information into a fake web site… is called a “Phishing Email”.

If your email client (like Gmail) has such a button, click on “Report Phishing”…. (Within Gmail, it’s on the drop-down menu for the message next to “Reply”) If you don’t find such a button, just click “Report as Spam”.

The only way to be absolutely sure you are dealing with the REAL Skype web site… You must open a new browser window, and type in the address yourself, manually — as skype.com — NOT by clicking a link contained within an email message.

Always remember this: Whenever you click a link contained within an email message, you could be redirected to a fake look-alike website — one set up for the sole purpose of tricking you into entering your account information, password, and other personal information. The only way you can know for sure that you are at paypal.com (for example), it to open a new browser, and enter paypal.com yourself — manually.

  2. ;)
Eleo, you are just TOO smart.
By the way… How come the email address you entered does not work? And there is no contact info on your website?
I don’t quite understand your website. Is it still under construction?
By the way, I read your main page wrong. I thought the second button said, “The Rapist”….. Ha ha ha! Till I went there and saw…. “Therapist”.
I guess I should tell my psychologist friends that one… “Ya know… With the proper spacing, the word THERAPIST… spells THE RAPIST…”
    :)

  3. The email address that I use on blogs is quite bogus. For your convenience I have provided this time a real email address.

A lot of people seem confused about my website. Yes, it is still under construction but not to the point where it should be utterly confusing. Yet many people are confused, so I will have to work on its user-friendliness.

Many people read “therapist” as “the rapist”. I don’t mind; I kind of go with it. It’s humorous to me.
